April 22nd is the 56th World Earth Daythe Hezheng Hualin On-site Burial Paleozoological Museum of Linxia UNESCO Global Geopark invited 36 teachers and students from Hualin Primary School into its visitor center. Through a combination of science polarization lesson, fun interactions and practical activities, the event offered students an immersive journey into earth science exploration.

At the beginning of the events, With the theme of Exploring Geological Wonders and Building a Shared Future, the staff from Linxia Geopark Service Center explained the importance of earth science to the students and encouraged them to explore nature with curiosity and practice environmental protection concepts with practical actions. Subsequently, the docent acted as a science popularization expert, used vivid animations and interesting stories to popularize earth science knowledge, including the earth layered structure, ecosystems and the distinctive geological features of Linxia area.

In the interactive experience area, through geopark puzzles and a three-dimensional flying chess game, the participants unlocked the mysteries of the earth and experienced the charm of geological science in an entertaining and educational way. The students worked in groups to identify geological features and iconic landscapes on the puzzle pieces, and deepened their understandings on distributions, formation causes and unique values of the UNESCO Global Geopark as they completed the puzzles. The specially designed flying chessboard integrated elements of the UNESCO Global Geopark, and with each move, allowing students to learn about the geological structures and biodiversity of different geoparks through knowledge cards on the chessboard .

At the end of the activity, the group visited the Hualin Geological Section, where the docent explained geological section knowledge to everyone. Students then used tongs and rubbish bags to carefully pick up cigarette butts, paper wastes, plastic bottles and other litter along the section, and put them into categories to demonstrate the responsibility of “protecting the environment, starting from me”. Zhang Xiaolan, a fifth-grade student from Hualin Primary School, said, “I never knew the earth was so amazing! I will learn more knowledge about it in the future and tell my family to take care of the environment together!"
