Recently, in order to cultivate young children's awareness of environmental protection and inherit the history and culture of their hometown, Hezheng Paleozoological Museum collaborated with Hezheng Gangoumen Kindergarten organized 100 teachers and students to carry out a themed event, “Strive to be a little Earth guardian -- the World Earth Day”, and led children to unlock a feast of knowledge that is both educational and entertaining.
The first stop of the activity was a science popularization class at the museum's Youth Activity Center. The docent acted as a "knowledge magician", simply explained the origin and significance of World Earth Day in depth through vivid illustrations and interesting videos. On the screen, the magnificent landscapes of the Earth and images of ecological crises were presented alternately, the children could not take their eyes off the screen, and raised their hands frequently to ask questions, deepened their knowledge of the common home of mankind through interactions.
Subsequently, the children went into the Hezheng Paleozoological Theme Exhibition Hall of Linxia UNESCO Global Geopark to start a time-traveling exploration. In the Platybelodon model area, a scroll of their hometown's ecology of 16 million years slowly unfolded: giant Platybelodons are "strolling" across the grassland, while some saber-toothed tigers(smilodons) are lurking ... The realistic scenes elicited continuous exclamations from the children, “So our hometown used to be like this!” The innocent words were filled with full of curiosity and pride for the history of their hometown.
This joint event of the museum and kindergarten has broken the boundaries of traditional education, allowing the children to gain dual growth through immersive experiences. They not only established the environmental protection concept of “Protect the Earth, starting from me”, but also touched upon the rich historical background of their hometown through the ancient fossils .
