Located in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province, Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark of China is composed of Yardang Geoarea and Mount Mingshashan and Crescent Moon-shaped Spring Geoarea, associated with the Natural Landscape Tourism Area and Cultural Heritage Tourism Area, with an area of 2, 067.2 km. The geopark is characterized by the typical landforms in the extremely droughty climate ,such as Yardang landform, Mount Mingshashan and Crescent Moon-shaped Spring, the vast Gobi and desert, as well as oases-wetlands and numerous cultural relics, such as the world-famous Mogao Grottoes, Yangguan Pass, Yumenguan Pass, and ancient military ruins-great Wall of the Han Dynasty and Hecang City on the ancient Silk Road.On Sep.19th, 2015, Dunhuang Geoparks was successfully included in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network list, and was awarded the title of Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geoparks . It is the first in Gansu Province ,the 32nd in China and the 113th in the world.
